Have you picked a word for the upcoming year? It’s not a new thing. I’ve done it for years and people all across the land, online and offline, proclaim the benefits of letting go of new year resolutions and choosing a single word instead. That word is your guidepost and helps you achieve whatever you want for your life in the coming year.
In years past, I have chosen the word TRUST (more than once) and of course, joy. To do the things that bring me joy has required trust that things will turn out alright. That has become my new normal. We all can create a new normal over and over again. Are you willing?
I’m pretty good at exercising my trust muscle these days (it’s an ongoing practice) and I do let joy and delight be my tipping point. It certainly wasn’t always this way. I used to be a stressed out worrywart like the majority of the population.
I am so glad I have opened up to entertain other possibilities.
This year the word that has popped into my head to be the focus is EASE. This too, to let things come with ease, has become a new mantra in recent years. If something is requiring too much rigmarole, it may not be the right path for me at the moment.
Let’s take simple example and say I want to take a trip. Destination 1 and Destination 2 are equally joyful and delightful. I trust I will have fun at either location. Which trip falls into place with ease? If I go online and find airfare and hotel for Place 1 in a jiffy, super. If nothing is lining up right for Place 2, I don’t force it. Or if nothing comes with ease for either place, I let it go and trust that something else will show up.
The word EASE can influence how I start my day, how I go through my day, how I end my day. I remind myself over and over that I want to make decisions with ease. I want to drink more water with ease. I want to move my body more ease. I want to attract new amazing clients with ease. I want to pay my credit card bill in full every month with ease. I want to laugh with ease. I want to get my projects done with ease.
If I hit a snag, I find a solution with ease. If I have too many options, I make a choice with ease. I fall asleep at night with ease. I wake up and exercise with ease.
The word ease means the absence of difficulty; absence of rigidity or discomfort; freedom from worries or problems; simplicity; peace; calm; tranquility; serenity. That is what my spirit wants for 2018.
As I go through the year, I take the path/option/choice that feels like peace and calm, that feels simple and serene. That feels good. And I wonder if next year my word will be excitement or thrill. 😊
With my clients, I create ease around the task of writing. I take what is complex and simplify it. I help them sort the pieces and parts to create a lovely linear whole. I get thanked daily for removing the difficulty.
I often tell clients to let it be easy. Book writing, and life, can flow with ease and grace. For me right now, that feels good. So be it. So it is.
Let a word be a guiding light for you this year. Take a few minutes to sit with it. Journal for a bit and see what word wants to be your companion for 2018. Let me know what comes to you. And I hope it comes with ease!
