It would be a very big book that contained all the maybes uttered in a day. ~French Proverb
Maybe is not necessarily a “bad word.” Long ago, I may have used it to placate a child. “Mom, can I get more Pokemon cards?” “Maybe.” Many children come to understand that maybe means no. That is not the meaning of the word.
The oft-used word is defined as perhaps, possibly.
That is optimistic.
What if we use our adult maybes to ourselves as a “yes” that we are just not quite ready for? Our maybe can mean not yet, but will come to be.
Look at the word: MAY BE. That is the root, those two words. The synonyms include: can be, could be, imaginable, possible, conceivable, credible, feasible, OBTAINABLE.
That is exciting!
What if you looked at the things you brush off as a “maybe” with a new heart? For example, Will you ever go to Europe? With a sigh, you say maybe. Now with a new utterance of conviction, and a breath of excitement, you say maybe! Smile as you say maybe. It becomes possible, conceivable, credible, feasible, OBTAINABLE.
As this year ends and a new one opens chock-full of possibility, what is a maybe that you had previously written off? Revisit those maybes.
Will you find love this year? IT MAY BE!
Will you get out of debt this year? IT MAY BE!
Will you travel this year? IT MAY BE!
Career happiness? IT MAY BE!
Good Health? IT MAY BE!
Your desire? IT MAY BE!
Now when you catch yourself saying with a shrug to some suggestion you once thought out of reach, you will say, IT MAY BE. It may. Permission granted.
What do you desire for yourself this new year? IT MAY BE.
The first step to any desire coming to fruition is the belief that it may be. That is your assignment as you enter the new year. Rewire yourself to tip the scales to the optimistic notion of it may be. Now when you tell yourself maybe, it is not a resigned no. It is a “maybe, just maybe, things will work out!” The last thing you tell yourself is the clincher – things will work out.
Declare it for yourself. It may be.
Cheers to the new year full of wonderful new may-bes!
